DESAREE TAN

Hey there! My name is Desaree but most people call me Des. As a second year University of Melbourne student, food has provided comfort and joy, breaking up the blocks of lectures and tutorials. Ultimately, it is the bliss that eating provides, especially in a variety of different environments with different cuisines, that inspired me to begin Deliciously Des.

After much experience, I began to notice that there was no comprehensive guide to eateries which were easily accessible and affordable. This food blog aims to share both the cheap feeds and higher end eateries. My experience prompted me to create my own rendition of desserts, dishes and drinks - found under 'Recipes'.

Q&A

Why is your blog called Deliciously Des?

In the development of my food blog brand, this question was at the centre of my thoughts. Should I make the name straight forward? “We eat for the people” seemed ideal. However, I felt that the alliterated name Deliciously Des had a nice ring to it. The name represents the purpose of the site; that is, to share delicious epicurean delights, and myself as the sole blogger!

What can we always find in your pantry?

The staples for baking; flour, sugar, baking soda - you name it, it's probably there. As for snacks, often there is an array of Japanese crackers, shapes and roasted seaweed. My pantry is also home to all types of spices, from oregano to star anise; they each come together to form a large set for cooking all sorts of cuisine.

How do you balance food blogging in between studying?

Gastronomy as a concept has always been at the core of my study and work experience. Whether it means to take a break between shifts or classes to eat socialise, lunch or a simple snack I believe it’s always worth capturing a memory - or two. This passion of food has motivated me to make time, and organise constantly by using a google calendar.
